Yes, you will be able to use your KidiBuzz^™ before and during part 1 and part 2 of the firmware update. Click the home button during the firmware update to return to the home screen. Some learning games and eBooks will be available and you will also be able to use the Voice Changer app, Friends contact list, calendar, clock, notes and calculator.
